Maine Coon Rescue

The nationwide, nonprofit organization Maine Coon Rescue (MCR) is a network of volunteers dedicated to rescuing abandoned, abused, surrendered, and homeless Maine Coon cats. MCR also acts as a liaison between shelters, animal control, catteries, and disaster agencies nationwide. Volunteers work tirelessly in making sure that these beloved cats find permanent homes. Potential owners are carefully screened before adopting one of their rescued abused, abandoned, or homeless cats. MCR also finds foster care homes if needed.

MCR volunteers are united in their love of these cats and go to great lengths to make sure adopted cats will be well cared for and spoiled. Rescue efforts are entirely funded from donations of cat lovers, as well as adoption fees and fund raising events. Monies are used carefully to ensure that they can help as many needy cats as possible.

Kittens Cats

MCR also assists animal shelters and other rescue organizations to locate homes for Maine cats they may have. For pedigree and registered animals, documentation is required to prove their parentage. If cats do not have clear documentation of their pedigree, the cats will be shown as a Maine Coon mix or a DLH Mix.

Maine Coon Rescue

MCR prefers cats not be shipped by airplane cargo. They can assist with other travel for a fee. They will also assist with air transportation if someone accompanies the cat and physically carries it onto the plane. Several carriers are considered to be "airline approved". You'll need to have a health certificate dated 10 days within the flight and abide by any other requirements by the airline carrier.

For people interested in adopting a cat from this agency, there are several requirements. The adopted owner must agree to humane treatment of the cat. They must provide water, food, shelter, vaccinations, and necessary veterinary care. MCR has the right to inspect living conditions and reclaim the cat if inhumane treatment is discovered. New owners must also agree that they will not sell, trade, or transfer their cat to any other home or shelter. The cat can be returned to MCR at any time, but refunds are only allowed within two weeks of its original adoption.

Owners must also abide by their spay/neuter contract, which requires the cat be kept indoors, not declawed, supply a scratching post, pay medical expenses, and notify MCR if the cat dies within two years of the adoption. If the cat is under six months of age, adopter must spay or neuter the cat by the age of six months. If your state requires an animal must be spayed or neutered before adoption, the cat can be adopted but will not go home until it is spayed or neutered.

Maine Coon Rescue Adoption fees range between 0 for spayed and neutered kittens to 0 for purebred and Maine Coon kittens. Adult cats range in price from 5 for adults one to nine years old and 0 for a purebred Maine Coon one to six years of age. Cats 10 years and older, and cats with special needs, are 0.
